DARPA Defense Sciences Office Office-wide BAA (link) –– The DSO Office-wide BAA invites proposers to submit innovative basic or applied research concepts or studies and analysis proposals that address one or more of the following technical thrust areas: (1) Frontiers in Math, Computation and Design, (2) Limits of Sensing and Sensors, (3) Complex Social Systems, and (4) Anticipating Surprise. Proposals must investigate innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances.

Air Force: Aerospace Medicine, Clinical Research, Human Performance, and Expeditionary Medicine (link) – The 711th Human Performance Wing intends to solicit White Papers under this announcement for Aerospace Medicine, Human Performance Research, and Expeditionary Medicine for innovative and state-of-the-art research to enhance the following fields of Force Health Protection, EN Route Care, Operational Medicine, Expeditionary Medicine, and Human Performance and Systems Integration.

NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH (NIH)
Enabling Technologies to Accelerate Development of Oral Biodevices (R01 and R21, Clinical Trial Not Allowed) (link) – This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications that propose transformative engineering solutions to technical challenges associated with new development, substantial optimization of existing technologies and clinical translation of intraoral biodevices. Proposed technologies are expected to advance development of oral biodevices for clinical use, including but not limited to: precision medicine-based detection, diagnosis and treatment of oral and overall health conditions, and measurement of patient functional status and clinical outcome assessment. Areas of interest in this FOA include engineering approaches that allow integration of electronic, physical, and biological systems into functional biodevices that are safe and effective for detection, diagnosis and treatment of oral and systemic disease. Products of this research will be functional biodevices and integrated approaches thoroughly characterized to demonstrate preclinical safety and effective performance in support of specific intended clinical applications. To streamline the development of oral biodevices that advance precision medicine-based approaches in clinical practice, this FOA encourages interdisciplinary collaborations across engineering, multifunctional sensors, pharmacology, chemistry, medicine, and dentistry, as well as between academia and industry.

- Awards: Application budgets are not limited but need to reflect the actual needs of the proposed project. The maximum project period is 5 years.

COVID-19: Community Interventions to Address the Consequences of the COVID-19 Pandemic among Health Disparity and Vulnerable Populations (R01- Clinical Trial Optional) (link) – This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages applications to implement and evaluate community interventions testing 1) the impacts of mitigation strategies to prevent COVID-19 transmission in NIH-designated health disparity populations and other vulnerable groups; and 2) already implemented, new, or adapted interventions to address the adverse psychosocial, behavioral, and socioeconomic consequences of the pandemic on the health of these groups.
- Awards: Up to $500,000 in direct costs per year for up to 5 years.

NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION (NSF)
Disaster Resilience Research Grants (DRRG) (link) – With this joint solicitation, the NSF and the U.S Department of Commerce (DOC) National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) call for proposals for research to advance fundamental understanding of disaster resilience in support of improved, science-based planning, policy, decisions, design, codes, and standards.
- Awards: Award size will range from $200,000 to $400,000.
- Deadline: LOI due Aug. 14, 2020; Full Proposal due Sept. 15, 2020.
- IMPORTANT WEBCAST: NSF and NIST will hold an informational webcast on August 3, 2020, to discuss the DRRG program and answer questions about this solicitation. The webcast will be archived and available for viewing for at least 3 months following the event.
Developmental Sciences (DS) (link) – DS supports basic research that increases our understanding of cognitive, linguistic, social, cultural, and biological processes related to human development across the lifespan. Research supported by this program will add to our knowledge of the underlying developmental processes that support social, cognitive, and behavioral functioning, thereby illuminating ways for individuals to live productive lives as members of society.
- Awards: A typical project funded through the DS program is approximately 3 years in duration with a total cost budget, including both direct and indirect costs, between $100,000 and $200,000 per year.
- Deadline: July 15, 2020
Social Psychology (link) – The Social Psychology Program at NSF supports research and research infrastructure to advance basic knowledge in social psychology. Projects funded by the Social Psychology Program support the NSF mission to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; and to secure the national defense. Proposals considered by the Social Psychology Program must communicate both the intellectual merit of the science and its broader societal impacts. Proposed research should carry strong potential for creating transformative advances in the basic understanding of human social behavior. Interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and convergent research approaches are encouraged.
- Deadline: July 15, 2020

Boehringer Ingelheim: 2020 Advancement in Equine Research Awards for Equine Respiratory Disease Research (link) – The Boehringer Ingelheim Equine Research Award will focus on one specific equine disease area each year. For 2020, the equine disease of focus is equine respiratory disease with suggested areas of research focused on Equine Infectious Respiratory Disease and Equine Asthma Syndrome.
- Students: Residents and DVM/VMD graduate students will be given preferential consideration for two of the five grants if proposals are deemed adequate merit.
- Awards: $15,000 for 1 year.
- Deadline: Sept. 15, 2020.
American Association for Cancer Research: Science of the Patient (SOP) Grants Program (link) – The AACR-The Mark Foundation for Cancer Research “Science of the Patient” (SOP) Grants Program represents a joint effort to stimulate novel research aimed at understanding the influence of the biology of the host (i.e., patient) on the genesis, development, treatment, and survivorship of cancer. Successful projects should emphasize the interplay of host physiological systems with the tumor and/or tumor microenvironment.
- Awards: $750,000 over 3 years.
- Deadline: LOI due July 13, 2020; Full Proposal due Oct. 6, 2020
